About Kiambethu Farm

Just a short drive from the heart of Nairobi, Kiambethu Farm at Limuru provides a tranquil insight into life on a tea farm. Situated at 7,200 ft., Kiambethu was bought and farmed by AB McDonell in 1910. He was a pioneer in the tea industry being one of the first to make and sell tea commercially in Kenya - now one of Kenya's largest exports. Five generations have lived on the farm and it is currently run by his granddaughter Fiona Vernon. The farm house is set within beautiful gardens surrounded by acres of tea and indigenous forest - home to the Colobus monkey. We offer tours Thursday to Sunday each week starting at 11am

Tea Farm Exploration:
Guided Tour: Stroll through the verdant tea fields, where expert guides will explain the intricacies of tea cultivation and the unique qualities of purple tea.
Tea Picking: Try your hand at picking tea leaves, guided by experienced tea pickers who will teach you the best techniques.

Tea Production Experience:
Making Specialty Tea: Return to the farm and learn the traditional methods of producing orthodox tea. Participate in roasting, hand-rolling, drying, and packaging your tea to take home as a unique souvenir.
Forest Trek: Embark on a nature walk through the nearby forest, rich with indigenous plants and wildlife, culminating in a visit to a local waterfall where you can take a refreshing dip.
